This is his entertaining, humorous, and often inspiring story, (and everything you need to know if you ever wanted to do an Ironman).
From negotiating time for training, convincing co-workers he wasn't going to die through to heart rate management, gear, and nutrition choices. The author takes you through his journey as a suburban dad with two kids and a job to taking on one of the toughest endurance races around, Ironman.
Ironman is a race that includes a 3,800m swim, 180km cycle, and then running a full marathon, all in one day. 226km in a single day with a cut off of 18 hours.
While there is a lot of information online, the author was amazed that much of it assumes a certain level of knowledge, or which is confusing to the uninitiated, or just too broad to be of practical use. With endurance events, there is a lot that can go wrong, and months of preparation are required. Meticulous research, planning, measurement, and consulting with various coaches and experts culminated in the contents of this book.Â
The updated edition also includes Ironman attempt 2 in Italy which ended up in a flood and pics.
