WHAT WE RECOMMEND AND WHY
Whey protein - animal protein and thus a complete protein with all the essential amino acids (These are the ones your body cannot make). Plant proteins tend to be incomplete, lacking sufficient levels of certain amino acids, making them better suited as meal-replacement-type supplements.
But if you are lactose intolerant, this might be best for you, and then add in some BCAAs separately.
Isolate - More filtering to get a higher % protein. Concentrates tend to be around 80% protein, and isolates usually 90%+. However, as raw material prices have increased, this year's % has dropped, so check your pack per 100 g. Old Bull protein is an isolate, containing 95% protein. If you are not sure of the difference, find out more about the difference between concentrate and isolate protein.Â
Natural flavours and sweeteners, no sugar.Â
Taste is an individual thing. Some like it sweet, some don't. Some like chocolate, some don't. Vanilla is the most common protein flavour, with over 50% + of protein users preferring it. The alternate preference is chocolate, followed by a variety of weird and wonderful.
Intake. Make sure you know your daily intake, how much protein you need, and the scoop size. Getting enough protein helps maintain a positive nitrogen balance and prevents muscle breakdown. If you are unsure about protein intake, read our protein intake guide here.
