Whey Protein
Whey protein is an animal-based protein and is one of the primary proteins found in dairy products.
Whey protein is derived from cow's milk and includes both whey and casein protein. Once separated, the whey undergoes various processes to become a protein powder, which doesn't taste great unless flavoured, which most protein powders are. Whey is the watery portion of milk that separates when making cheese.
This by-product becomes whey protein powder and is commonly used as a supplement alongside exercise to help improve muscle synthesis and promote the growth of lean muscle. Whey protein powder can be hydrolysed, isolate or concentrate. Old Bull protein is an isolate and you can learn more about the differences between isolate and concentrate here.
Protein shakers are commonplace at sports fields and in gyms and locker rooms. What is increasing, is home use, and the use by middle-aged athletes to maintain muscle mass as they age.
Before you run off and start shaking your shaker, make sure you understand your protein intake here. If you are doing resistance-based exercise, trying to manage your weight, or just busy and not getting enough protein (which becomes harder as you age), whey protein isolate is a great supplement.
